Because dishwashers wash dishes, they call them dishwashers. Why aren't normal washers called clothes washers

I know this is a weird question, but one of my friends brought it up, and it got me thinking.Because dishwashers wash dishes, they call them dishwashers. Why aren't normal washers called clothes washers
I don't know, but why do you drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?Because dishwashers wash dishes, they call them dishwashers. Why aren't normal washers called clothes washers
because you can wash any thing you can put into it! there for a washer,
In the beginning long before dishwashers were in existence a mechanized device was invented to wash clothes. It was then labeled as a washing machine. There was no need to distingiush it from a washer for dishes which had not yet been invented.
Clothes washers have been around for a long time. Even if it was the wringing type, lots of people had them. And, they were the only kind of washer people had. So, they just called them washers.

Fast forward a few decades. Now we have dish washers, pressure washers, etc. Since the first washer was a clothes washer, it's understood that just ';washer'; refers to a clothes washer. If it's for washing something else, you say what it washes (or how it washes, for a pressure washer) to distinguish it from a clothes washer.
That's exactly what my family called them when I was a kid. As opposed to a pressure washer, faucet washer, egg washer...
Because it's a washing machine. A washer is a metal disk used under a nut and bolt.

  • How much are shipping costs for washers and dryers?

I'm selling my washer and dryer if I have to ship it where can I find shipping costs lists ,also this delivery will be within the USHow much are shipping costs for washers and dryers?
The shipping costs will probably be more than what the washer and dryer are worth. You will only be shipping one time so you will not get a discount like companies that ship a lot do. You probably don't have a forklift and the person on the receiving end probably does not either, so it will have to be picked up and delivered on a truck with a lift gate. These things add to the cost considerably. Also, you will have to package them on skids. If you want to get some kind of idea, have a look at http://www.dnafreight.com/freight-quote.鈥?/a> I have not used this service before, just saw it advertised.

A better option might be to try to sell to someone that can pick the item up or arrange for shipping locally only. You might be able to find a local shipper in the yellow pages (check under moving companies and/or freight) that could help you out. A local shipper will be much cheaper because the items will probably be picked up and delivered on the same truck and lift gate service is usually standard for this type of company instead of an added cost. Also, you might not have to place the items on skids -- definitely not if you use a local moving company.

How do I wash in the coin washers and the coin dryers?

Well, my mom used to wash my clothing

and she used to put dark in cold

    lights in warm

    and whites in hot

    but i don't know how

can you give a very descriptive thing.

and how to avoid navy blue and khaki uniforms from being fadedHow do I wash in the coin washers and the coin dryers?
there are usually directions on the machines or on the wall nearby. ask the help of someone there familiar w/ the machines if you can. Basically just wash everything in COLD if you're in a hurry %26amp; until yu can learn by heart.

Wash those uniforms in cold the first several times until you are SURE the colors have set, then you can probably wash them in warm occasionally.

Why don't my windscreen washers fire sufficient washer fluid?

When I try and clean my windscreen the fluid takes at least 5 seconds to come through and when it eventually does it only fires a very short distance, only a few inches. The pumps are definitely working as you can hear them. I have tried using an air hose to dislodge any blockage but this had no effect. Is it likely that there is a blockage inside the tank (from the tank side)? Why don't my windscreen washers fire sufficient washer fluid?
Pull out the pump from the reservoir, it should just pull out. There will be a rubber grommet in the hole and this also serves as a filter. Pull this out and wipe it.

Will be a good excercise to swill out the reservoir before reassembling. Why don't my windscreen washers fire sufficient washer fluid?
Most washer squirters have small one way check valves in the hoses close to the squirters, you need to remove them from the hose(s) and blow them out, pay attention to the direction they go.
You should check the pump thingy, maybe its not working properly.
stick a needle in the holes and free up whats there!! its prob lime from the tap water clooging up the pipes!! try use rain water by leaving a can out side collect rain!!

if this fails try putting some grapes in a bag on the nozzle where water comes out ( crush the grapes up release the juice) or squirt cillit bang on them!!
You mind find that there is dirt in the solution container that is causing a blockage where the screen wash enters the pump.
First thing to do is pull the sprayer pipe off the sprayer on the bonnet. Then operate the sprayer, you should get a nice steady stream of water coming out of the end of the pipe. If you do not then unfortunately you will need to replace the sprayer pump.

If you do get a steady spray then more than likely the nozzle on the sprayer jets are blocked. The best way to clean them is with a fine pin and with the sprayer pipe still disconnected force the pin into the sprayer nozzle hole.

    Ja.
get a pin or a needle and find the hole in the little metal thing where the water comes out before it hits your screen. there could be a blockage there. you can also adjust the direction of the flow while you do this
There is a filter in the water pick up in the reservoir.

Check to see if this is blocked as well.

If somebody has used washing up liquid and alcoholic anti freeze in the water it will be 'bunged' up with a jelly like substance.

Wash it out with hot - not boiling - water.

This also clears the tubes and jets well.

    RoyS
you should get more washer fluid and try that, thats hard for me to answer
park your car on a dry surface, then hold your washer on for about 15-20 seconds. wait for a minute and check under your car for water leaks, if there are you have a leak in the washer pipe.

if not check the bottom of the washer reservoir for blockage.

still no luck then try cleaning the jets with a needle.

if all this fails just take your car out in the rain or employ a small child to sit on the roof of your car with a water pistol, squirting your screen when you knock the roof

    good luck

Does anyone remember those top-load clothes washers that used to have a jack-hammer like agitator in them?

They used to have agitators that would go up and down rapidly. What were they called, and how come they don't make them anymore? I think General Motors used to make them.Does anyone remember those top-load clothes washers that used to have a jack-hammer like agitator in them?
Yes, they were Frigidaires and they were made by General Motors. The agitator was called the roll-a-matic. They worked well and did a superior job of washing clothes, but they had too many mechanical parts which led to frequent break-downs. They were also famous for tub leaks caused by the vibration from the agitator. The parts were also extraordinarily expensive. They stopped making them when competition from large retail stores like Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, K-mart, etc. started selling large appliances at discounted prices. Frigidaire's profits typically came from selling to independent dealers. They simply couldn't manufacture that line and compete with the likes of Whirlpool, GE, and Speed Queen. So they redesigned their line of washers to more closely reflect the others' designs. Then they started building less-expensive and lower quality machines. The new market was in apartment complexes who bought them by the truck-load about every five years.

RexDoes anyone remember those top-load clothes washers that used to have a jack-hammer like agitator in them?
Unfourtunatly I am old enough to remember those. Have no idea about the rest of your question.
It was made by Frigidaire.I had one.I really loved it and boy could it clean. I tried to find one a few years ago and was told they quite making them as they cost too much to make .I was so disappointed. You maybe able to find a used one but they are very hard and expensive to work on and a used one would be quite old.Sorry
I remember , My mum had one , and the thing you are asking about , is the thing you put the clothes through to squeeze the water out?
You are right, they were made by GM, and the washer was a Frigidaire Washer. I wasn't too impressed, as I like the agitator better.

What are the best new washers and dryers(electric) - where, and how much?

I don't own any of these but my mother has a friend who is a repair man for sears on the washer and dryers. He has said that any front load washer does better than a top load washer on how clean the clothes get and water saving ability, but the main problem he's running into are the washers and dryers that have a digital display instead of the manual knobs. He recomends the manual knobs over the digital due to increased electrical problems. That's what I would recommend and start researching based on your needs on capacity and options. Sears has good brands, like Kenmore, and now Sams Club is offering the front load washer set that is really reasonable. What are the best new washers and dryers(electric) - where, and how much?
Semens and Bosch. Don't buy a Kenmore or anything from Sears or Home Depot. Siemens and Bosch are sistering companies and I own a Siemens and it works great. The drum is at an angle and the fins are straight ahead so you clothes get a better wash. Report Abuse

How do i get the headlight washers to pop up out of the bumper on my vauxhall astra ?

i have the 1.9 cdti sri '05 and it has little squares below the headlights is that what they are for?How do i get the headlight washers to pop up out of the bumper on my vauxhall astra ?
The only thing that I can think of for those squares is washers, I think that they may work if you wash the windscreen when the headlamps are switched on.How do i get the headlight washers to pop up out of the bumper on my vauxhall astra ?
ha ha ha i actually work for Vauxhall's in sunny old England. I'm situated at junc6 on M53 Wirral incase ya wanna check. The squares you are talking about, because all the bumpers for astras are the same (model - model year -year etc) they have cut outs because the Astra VXR (you might not get that one your side of the pond) has head light washers, yours DOES NOT. But they all use the same bumpers, its much easier to put a piece of plastic in a hole that to change the mould for thousands and thousands of bumpers, DONT YA THINK. Get a small flat screw driver and GENTLY prise the square out, you will see a HOLE !!!! SORRY TO PISS ON YA FIREWORKS
