What are the most likely reasons an apartment complex would not allow residents to have washers or dryers?

The apartments where I live don't have washer or dryer hook-ups in the actual apartments, but there's a laundry room that any of the residents can use.

I respect the rules, but what are the reasons behind them? Are dryers generally considered fire hazards? Do washers unreasonably increase the chance of water damage? Do the machines make too much noise?

Even slightly relevant thoughts, ideas, and opinions are welcome. What are the most likely reasons an apartment complex would not allow residents to have washers or dryers?
It is the power load, a dryer can not operate on standard power. Noise might be an issue, but access to appropriate power is the more logical problem. What are the most likely reasons an apartment complex would not allow residents to have washers or dryers?
Most apartments are not geared to a washer and dryer hookup with the plumbing and electrical work involved.. The cost to have these hookups are prohibitive and most land lords do not want to undertake this as they would have to raise the rent.

Apartments built awhile back were too small to incorporate washer and dryer hookups.

If the landlord provide coin operated washer and dryers for the tenants use. You are not required to use these washer and dryer. You might find wash houses in parts of the city.

In some of your higher end apartments there are provisions for washer and dryer hookups. For this convenience the rents are raised.

If you are seeking a washer and dryer hookup and this is very important to you, I suggest that you try renting a house instead of a house. Make sure the house you decide to rent have a washer and dryer hookup prior to moving into the house.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

';FIGHT ON';
it would cost them too much for any additional plumbing and wireing they would have to put in so you could have a washer/dryer in unit.

plus if the machines in the laundry room are coin opperated, thats more profit for the apartment complex. if they put washer/dryer in unit, they would not only have to spend all the money to get the hookups actually hooked up, but they would loose any profit the coin machines were generating
They don't want the expense of adding the extra plumbing and electrical.

Yes, some people don't have enough sense to do laundry during the day and the noise will bother other tennants.

Yes, there is a great risk of water damage from washer malfunctions.

And, they can make a few bucks off of the coin operated machines.
Ahh..You don't have any ';hook - ups'; would be a very good reason...

Does it cost to use the laundry room machines? If so , this is likely the reason and I would get my own machines otherwise you have answered your own question.

I would not think any judge would let this landlord charge you for something they are denying you but, again, you have no hook-up's...?
Electrical load limits. Dryer exhausts. Plumbing supply and drain lines. If such hookups were not incorporated into the facility design, you can't use such appliances. Typical apartments do not have such hookups.
Hi,

You answered your own question. Fire and water damage is the correct reason why. Plus the added cost to have hook-ups in each unit is too expensive.
Two main concerns 1) increase water consumption, which I will assume the landlord pays the water and sewer bill 2) the potential for water damage
water usage

flooding, damage

noise

inadequate electrical and plumbing to take the loads
I'm on board with Teds answer ,they want to control the coin operated machines and associated products.
