I don't know how to wash clothes that well I guess, because my clothes fade a lot faster than I think all my friends' do. So what's the diff? What's the difference between ';permanent press';, ';delicate';, and ';regular'; settings for washers?
The list you've offered is the agitator regulators. For example; Regular will really give the items a good tossing around. This setting is used for heavy fabrics, or heavily soiled items. Delicate will sort of swish things gently. It's the proper setting for fine fabrics that can't be stretched or twisted (lingerie, for example).
If your clothes are fading more than you think they should, check the water temperature you're using. Most of today's fabrics are tolerant of lower temp settings. And...don't use too much laundry detergent/soap. Keep your measuring cup handy and use the smallest amount recommended if your clothes are not filthy. What's the difference between ';permanent press';, ';delicate';, and ';regular'; settings for washers?
Permanent press is more for tough clothes that don't get ruined easily. Delicate is for clothes that can get damages easily and clothes that say on the tag hand wash or wash on delicates it is like hand wahsing them very gentle. And regular is for t-shirts underwear, socks, jeans, shorts, etc(Normal clothing that doesn't need special washing)
Kaylora above is right about the agitation. If your clothes are fading, use a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle when you first wash your garments. Many of the dyes coming out of China, India, Pakistan, etc. do not hold with repeated washings and bleed out of the garment. Vinegar sets the dye and will keep it from fading.
If your clothes are fading, use a cold water wash and rinse. Don't use warm or hot for darks, black, blue, red, brown etc should be washed in cold. Also use the shortest wash cycle, set for 3 minutes instead of 15 minutes. Don't use a heavy detergent, try one made just for darks or cold water washing. Don't use a lot of detergent, the more detergent you use the more fading will occur. And rinse well! If you have a extra rinse cycle use it, you don't want any detergent residue left on your clothes, it will set in the fabric and wear it out faster, making clothes fade or dingy. Also watch your dryer setting, the hotter it is the more abuse your clothes will get, partially dry your clothes and hang them to air dry if you can. It saves the fabric
