All asian countries have washer and dryer combined into a single unit. Most are typically top loading. However, washing and drying are separate functions in USA.
Why are there no combined washer-dryers in USA, like in Asia? Why are washers and dryers separate in the USA?
Bigger houses with more room. Also a washer or dryer is cheaper than a combination so if one breaks it's less expensive to replace just a washer or dryer than it would be to replace a combination of the two.Why are washers and dryers separate in the USA?
You can get them, but they are not a preference except in very small studio apartments. The tubs are too small to dry a decent size load without terrible wrinkling.
there are. they just haven't been widely available because we have the room for separate units in NA. now because we're all more environmentally conscious they are becoming more popular as they save energy and space.
So the companies can make more money. You have to buy two things instead of one. All so if you have a washer and dryer you can be washing one load at the same time that you are drying another.
it just makes sense to keep them separate so when one unit breaks you replace just the one. if these combined units from Asia are good I'd expect them to start showing here too....? maybe since there is less space in asia you gotta go for a smaller unit?
more or less so that if one breaks you replace it, instead of buying both units as one, then having to pay more to replace it if it goes down.
We have them, I have had two myself. You can't get warranties on them through SEARS after you buy them, and to fix it it would have cost the same as a new washer. Also they aren't very big, I had trouble with them after it hit 1 yr old. I wasn't impressed. Although I would have to say it would be ok for a couple or a single person. I have a family of five, it couldn't keep up.
